Muddler – Handmade in Spalted Curly Hard Maple 3
I designed this handmade muddler as a companion to a 16 oz glass for crushing fruit or mint at the bottom of the glass so you can easily make mixed drinks like mojitos or mint juleps. The end of the muddler has a convex shape so that it establishes good contact with the glass and effectively crushes the mint or fruit for a full-bodied flavor in any mixed drink. The muddler is a convenient tool around the bar because it’s the only way to reach the bottom of the glass for muddling. The Spalted Curly Hard Maple stock used to make this muddler was harvested locally and exhibits beautiful black zone lines that wave along with the curls and feature yellow ochres, siennas, and burnt umbers throughout. Note: Do not soak spalted maple in water before washing. After use, wash, dry, and apply mineral oil. (Mineral oil can be found in any pharmacy).

Because all muddlers are finished with pharmaceutical mineral oil and beeswax from my first cousin Franciszek’s beehives in Poland, they feel smooth and supple in hand. Please note: Since the grain in this muddler is unique, the image in the photo is the actual muddler you will receive. Mojito
Ten fresh mint leaves
1/2 fresh lime, squeezed
1-2 Tbs sugar
1-2 shots good rum
Crush mint, sugar & lime juice together in the bottom of the shaker with a muddler. Add ice and rum. Shake vigorously and pour into a glass; do not strain. Fill the glass with club soda and stir; float a mint leaf on top and serve with a straw.
Mint Julep
20 fresh mint leaves
2 tsp. sugar
2 -3 oz. bourbon
crushed ice
Place mint and sugar together at the bottom of an old-fashioned glass. Muddle for several minutes until the sugar dissolves and the mint becomes a fragrant mash. Add bourbon and ice; stir until an icy frost forms on the outside of the glass.

I originally ordered two muddlers (Curly Maple and Spalted Maple) from Sokolowski Studios as Christmas gifts for co-workers of mine. When they arrived they were well packaged, but I had to peek and see what I was paying for. Let me tell you, the pictures online do NOT do any justice to the exotic wood muddlers in real life!!! They were both amazingly crafted to highlight the beauty of the wood grain, perfectly weighted, and with a finished shine like satin! I was so impressed I ended up immediately ordering two more (Bocote and Spalted Curly Maple) to keep on hand as gifts for family and friends. I plan on ordering at least one or two more, eventually, for me. Do yourself a favor and don’t pay $100 or more for some poorly crafted muddler from other companies online…order from Sokolowski Studios….you will NOT regret it!!!!!
