Starbond CA Super glue or cyanoacrylate glue (A.K.A. CA Glue) has many uses in the shop. It’s not only used for repairing broken items but can also be used as a great base finish. You can achieve a high gloss finish with mirror-like qualities. Chapters 1 and 3 on the Brilliant Finishes DVD feature the use of this CA glue as a sealer coat to build upon. In chapter 3, a brilliant finish is created in about 30 minutes… a near impossible feat using traditional finishes. Shelf life for this glue is about 1-2 years, depending on the temperature of your environment. Refrigeration will extend the storage life of the glue. Two viscosities are available: Super thin and Medium thick. Medium thick is great for the repair of spalted wood like that found in spalted maple where small voids can be filled. Use it for glue blocks when turning on the lathe. Use with accelerator to speed up the drying time almost instantly.

EM-02 SUPER FAST THIN

• Viscosity: 2-3 cPs (meaning the thickness of the liquid is similar to that of water). Penetrating abilities of up to 0.002″ in size.

Starbond EM-02 Super Fast Thin CA glue is a “wicking type” ethyl cyanoacrylate super glue. This watery-thin, instant adhesive is commonly used to repair cracks and hairline fractures because of its ability to easily penetrate narrow spaces. Starbond Super Fast Thin CA glue is well suited for strengthening porous, fragile material such as soft spalted wood. During inlay applications, such as turquoise inlays or metal powder inlays, the thin viscosity CA glue penetrates and stabilizes the powder through capillary action. EM-600 Medium Thick

• Viscosity: 600 cPs  (thickness of the liquid is similar to syrup). Penetrating abilities of up to 0.008″ in size. Bonding time: 30-40 seconds.

Starbond EM-600 Medium Thick CA glue is an ethyl cyanoacrylate super glue that possesses a syrup-like viscosity that gives users sustained control on each drop of glue. The “heavier” medium CA glue is used for bonding and repairing. Starbond EM-600 Medium Thick CA glue is specially formulated to have an extended curing time that lengthens positioning time for more precise bonding. Depending on the material to be bonded and the volume of adhesive used, bonding time may reach up to one minute. In all such instances, Starbond accelerator is recommended to speed up bonding time. Starbond Accelerator (Pump bottle)

Starbond Super Glue Accelerator, also known as CA glue “activator,” is used to significantly decrease the drying time of cyanoacrylate super glues. The CA glue accelerant is a solvent based product that can be applied before and/or after CA glue application. Starbond Super Glue Accelerator is commonly paired with thicker viscosity CA glues and when using super thin as a finish. In addition, Starbond Super Glue Accelerator is useful when priming uneven surfaces or material combinations that are harder to bond, and in colder, drier environments where curing time may be delayed.
