8″ Traditional Peppermill – Satine with Copper Inlay

I made this satine with copper inlay pepper mill to feature a beautiful exotic wood to add an accent to any decor for contrast. Satine is also know as bloodwood and conduru and is imported from Brazil, French Guiana and Suriname. I purchased this wood from an exotic wood dealer who focuses on responsible sustainable forestry practices. Filling these mills is simple. By removing the top knob, the cap slips off giving you access to a large reservoir for storing the peppercorns.  This is the first style of mill I designed over 20 years ago and have since streamlined the design into a sensuous, soft form that is also ergonomically pleasing to use in the hands. By continuously turning the top cap clockwise a steady stream of ground pepper, to your liking, will fall crisply onto all of your favorite dishes. The top nut adjusts pepper from a fine to medium coarse grind.

I have several traditional mills in my own kitchen for grinding different spices. One year I grew my own cayenne pepper and crushed it into flakes using a food processor. It was HOT! When I ran out of my own stock I purchased some McCormick’s crushed red pepper. It paled in heat value. I tried an experiment by placing some of this store-bought crushed red pepper into one of my traditional peppermills and voila…the HEAT was increased exponentially! The moral…if you want full bodied flavor from dried spices…GRIND! To maintain the beautiful high gloss finish on this mill I recommend an automotive style paste wax with carnauba. The wax not only cleans but protects. Priced individually.
